Volunteer Opportunities

If you like having fun and meeting new people, we encourage you to become a volunteer at the Great Lakes Science Center. You don't have to be a scientist to be part of our team!


We have volunteer opportunities in the following areas:


  • Visitor Experience
    Volunteers in our Visitor Experience Department have a number of positions to choose from, including various combinations of roles including Group Greeter, Exhibit Interpreter, Polymer Fun House, Mobile Explorer, Special Exhibitor Interpreter, Science Demonstrator and Mather Facilitator.

  • Guest Services
    As a volunteer in Guest Services, you will provide information to visitors, answer phones, promote membership and check tickets.

  • Science Camp
    Help facilitate camp operations and activities.

  • Marketing
    Write press releases and marketing copy, compile marketing data, maintain brochure racks and sort and file media clippings

  • Administration and clerical support
    Projects include data entry, document shredding, packet assembly and mailings

  • Facilities and Maintenance
    Help with painting, electrical, plumbing and other small repair jobs

Volunteers must be at least 14 years of age and have completed eighth grade. Some opportunities require additional experience and education. All applicants are interviewed to ensure a comfortable fit for both the volunteer and the Science Center

Student Internship Opportunities

Would you like an internship with one of the largest science centers in the US? If so, consider interning with the Great Lakes Science Center. We offer fall, spring and summer internships in our marketing, education and administrative services offices.
